一、锭状
锭块是通过本章总注释所述任何一种方法制得黑色金属后将其浇铸而成的初级形状，其横截面通常为正方形、长方形或八角形。为了便于脱模，它的一边比另一边要厚。它的表面整齐划一，基本没有缺陷。
锭块通常锻轧成半制成品，但有时直接锻轧成条、片或其他最终产品。
二、其他初级形状
除熔融状态的钢外，本品目还包括方块、团块、熟铁棒及板桩。
方块及团块主要从直接还原的铁矿或通过电解沉积所得的“聚集块”或“堆积块”制得。当团块中的大部分熔渣除去后，在浆状状态下，利用压制机或通过对其“锻压”或锤击，轧制后即得熟铁棒及板桩，由于含有熔渣，所得产品具有纤维状结构的特点。这些产品适于特种用途，例如，制锚铁及提升钩。
本品目不包括：
（一）供再熔的碎钢铁锭（品目72.04）。
（二）通过连续铸造制得的产品（品目72.07）。
